Dr Pat O’Neill

Advances in Sports Medicine
Dr Pat O’Neill is a Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Physician in the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin. He is a Visiting University Lecturer in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. He is Past Dean (2006 - 08) of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), and represented the faculty nationally and internationally.

He was Chairman of the Overtraining Committee and a member of the Medical Scientific Player Welfare Committee of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), and a founder member of the Gaelic Games Doctors Association. He was a former All-Ireland Gaelic football player and team manager with the Dublin football team.

Professor Brendan Buckley MB MSc DPhil FRCPI FFPath FFSEM.

Anti-Doping Measures in Sport
Brendan Buckley practices in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Bon Secours Hospital, Cork and directs the biochemistry laboratories at the Mercy University Hospital and the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. He is an Honorary Clinical Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at UCC where he is Director of the European Centre for Clinical Trials in Rare Diseases. He is a medical and science graduate of UCC and received a DPhil in biochemistry from the University of Oxford. He directs a number of large clinical trials in Ireland on drugs affecting lipid and other metabolic pathways, including the PROSPER Study of pravastatin in older adults. He has directed a number of pivotal clinical trials in orphan medicinal products and has research interests in the development of methodologies for clinical trials in rare diseases and in the pharmacology of drugs affecting lipid metabolism. He chairs the Anti-Doping Committee of the Irish Sports Council. He a Board member of the Irish Medicines Board and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Human Medicines of the IMB and is a special advisor both to the European Medicines Agency and to the US Food and Drug Administration.
 

Dr Michael Griffin

Relections of a Team Doctor
Dr Michael Griffin is a GP from Limerick and has practiced in Johns Square for the past 32 years and is Programme Director of the General Practice Training Programme in Limerick. He has a keen interest in sport and is an active triathlete.

Dr Griffin is the former team doctor to the Irish Senior Rugby Team and the Munster Rugby Team. Currently he is team doctor to the Young Munster Rugby Team and the sports medical officer at Coaching Ireland.
