Derogations Agreed with HSE
IMPORTANT MESSAGE RE DEROGATIONS FOR WORK STOPPAGES ON 14th OCTOBER
WHAT IS A DEROGATION
A derogation is an exception to the work stoppage notice. IMO Council, mindful of patient safety, has already provided for doctors to work on site during the period of the stoppage with NCHDs working a Sunday Rota and Consultants on site but only for the purpose of managing patient care and treatment. Following meetings with the HSE and the IMO the following specific derogations have been agreed over and above the level of staffing already provided for in the work stoppage arrangements.
Derogations Agreed
The following services mean that medical teams will be staffed as normal and teams will not be operating on a Sunday rota
- Palliative/End of Life Care
- Cancer/Haematology Care
- Dialysis & Transplant
- Maternity Services – Sunday level of staffing plus 1
- Sexual Assault Treatment Unit – continue on normal arrangements
- Addiction Services – minimum staffing necessary to provide service
In respect of all time critical medical and surgical care it is envisaged that the level of staffing being provided by the IMO will cover such services and in the event of an emergency situation additional staffing will be available.
We remain in ongoing discussions with the HSE on these and other issues so please be aware there may be changes which we will advise you of in advance of 14th October.
