Public and Community Health Motions 2018

  1. The IMO again calls on the Department of Health and the HSE to implement a contract with consultant status for all practising Specialists in Public Health Medicine given the important role of Public Health Medicine in protecting and improving the health of the population of Ireland, and given the serious mismatch between the duties of Specialists in Public Health Medicine and the current contract.

  1. In relation to the report which was commissioned from Crowe Horwath on current and future roles, training, recruitment and retention of Public Health Physicians in Ireland, the IMO calls on the Department of Health and the HSE to publish the report and to engage with stakeholders on the implementation of its recommendations without delay.

  1. The IMO calls on the HSE to act promptly to full vacant Principal Medical Officer positions as these posts are critical for the organisation and management of an integrated and efficient Community Medical Service in each CHO.

  1. The IMO calls on the HSE to facilitate filling of vacant Senior Medical Officer posts in the Community Medical Departments in a timely manner in order to maintain provision of Child Health and Immunisation Services.
