Statement by IMO after LRC talks with HSE
Statement by IMO after LRC talks with HSE.
• Plans continue for industrial action on 25th September.
The IMO attended talks at the Labour Relations Commission in relation to the forthcoming industrial action by NCHDs in respect of dangerous and illegal working hours.
The IMO set out its position, as previously advised to the HSE, as follows:
1. An immediate cessation to shifts in excess of 24 hours
2. A detailed plan on achieving EWTD compliance by the end of 2014
The HSE presented no proposals for discussion on these matters. In commenting on the talks Mr Eric Young, Assistant Director Industrial Relations said “ It is incredible that the HSE referred the matter to the LRC, without having had negotiations with the IMO, and then attended with no proposals. This inaction by the HSE is not helpful in reaching a resolution to the dispute”.
The HSE are unable to present proposals until Monday 16th September and the parties are due to reconvene at the LRC on Tuesday 17th.
The IMO will be meeting with officials from the EU Commission today, September 12th, in regard to their investigation on the issue of working hours for Ireland’s NCHDs.
The IMO is continuing with preparations for industrial action by NCHDs on 25th September.
Ends.
