Public Service Stability Agreement – Salaries October 2020

As you may remember, the final tranche of the pay restoration elements of the Public Service Stability Agreement (2018 / 2020) is due for payment on 1st October this year. This pay change, which is part of the broader unwinding of FEMPI, will see public service salaries increased by two percent.

As you may have seen, there has been some speculation in the media that this pay rise may be postponed or deferred in light of the strains placed on the public finances by the COVID – 19 pandemic.

For the avoidance of doubt, the IMO position is that under no circumstances could the agreed pay adjustment not be made particularly in light of the considerable sacrifices made by frontline healthcare professionals in the context of the pandemic.

We have now been advised by the Public Services Committee of ICTU that the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform has “re-affirmed the intention to honour the terms of the Public Service Stability Agreement, including the final payment of 2% due on 1 October.”

We have also been advised that initial engagement on the potential for a successor agreement will commence in September – it had been intended to commence this engagement much earlier, but for obvious reasons that did not happen.

We will be in further contact with you as things progress, but if you have any queries please forward those by e-mail to imo@imo.ie or on (01)6767273.
