Following representations from the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), the Health Service Executive (HSE) has agreed to extend the date by which accumulated Historic Rest Days must be taken until 31^st December 2021. 

This decision comes in the context of the current COVID-19 crisis, and the previous deadline of 31^st December 2020. Had that deadline remained in place, eligible Consultants would, potentially, have had to depart from the health service at the height of an unprecedented crisis. This was clearly not in the interest of Consultants, the service, or most importantly patients.
