Tuesday 3rd March 2015. The Irish Medical Organisation has said that negotiations with the HSE and Department of Health are ongoing in respect of the provision of GP services for Children Under the Age of Six.

A spokesperson for the IMO has said that media reports today on the nature of what was being discussed or considered in these negotiations by way of both payments and services are “inaccurate and wide of the mark”.

The Department of Health have also confirmed in a statement that this afternoon’s reports are inaccurate.

The IMO have said that discussions have been held in relation to the scope of services and such services may include one assessment at age 2 and one assessment at age 5. There have also been discussions on a cycle of care for children with asthma. We are currently in a process whereby we are determining the fee level for such services in accordance with the framework agreement but negotiations have yet to be concluded. “We do not expect that any contract will be offered to GPs until such negotiations have concluded.”
