Irish Medical Organisation

Welcome - Dr Paul McKeown - President

Dear Colleagues

I am pleased to set out the programme for our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which takes place from the 4th to the 6th of April next. The AGM is the key annual event for our Organisation and it is critical, at this time of unprecedented attacks on our health services, that we gather together to reaffirm our commitment to a strong and focused IR Strategy.

This year’s gathering is perhaps more important than many recent AGMs. We have been through a period of great controversy and frustration and we are about to begin a process of renewal of the organisation which is perhaps overdue. I can assure you that I, and my colleagues on the Executive Committee, Management Committee and Council are making every effort to ensure comprehensive, independent reviews take place where necessary and put in place sound and workable structures going forward. This AGM is an opportunity for all members to be part of the debate on the future of our Organisation so as to ensure it is structured and governed in the most effective way to deliver for the membership.

The AGM also seeks to reflect the wider remit of the IMO in terms of developing our views on the wider health services and important societal issues and this year we have a very interesting and topical Scientific Programme for members to engage in. Our CPD programme will be of great benefit for all doctors in dealing with issues from adverse medical outcomes, to advocating on behalf of our patients and dealing with the increasing incidence of stress and burnout in our profession.

Again I would urge all members to get involved – the IMO is your Organisation and I look forward to seeing you in Killarney.

Dr Paul McKeown
President
