Meet the speakers

Fran McGrath, Sales & Business Development Manager with IMO Financial Services is a Qualified Financial Adviser and has over 15 years’ experience in the financial services sector. He has been advising GPs in the area of financial planning for pensions, retirement, investment opportunities and protection.

In his presentation, Fran will be touching on how to prepare GPs for retirement from a financial aspect and the various retirement options available to GPs.

Paul Kenny spent more than 30 years in the pensions industry before being appointed as Ireland’s first Pensions Ombudsman in 2003 from which he retired in May 2016. Paul was a founder Fellow of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management, and a Director for ten years of the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland and its Chairman for three years. He has written and lectured extensively on pensions and related matters.

Paul will present on how retirement can affect your personal identity and sense of self. He will also be touching on the social welfare system, state pension provision, benefits and entitlements.

Val Moran is a University College Cork graduate where he gained a BSc. in Finance. He subsequently qualified as a solicitor and worked in private practice in Cork. Val has been with the IMO since 2010 and is currently Director for GP and Public and Community Health.

Val’s presentation will deal with planning for retirement from the GMS, rules governing GMS list succession, redundancy issues and different models of succession.

Helen McGrath is a partner at O’Connor Solicitors and has practiced for over 10 years in the area of wills, trusts, capital taxes, estate planning, administration of estates, enduring powers of attorney and wardship. Helen has acted for major financial institutions, private clients, charitable organisations and other professional legal and financial firms both within Ireland and abroad. Helen tutors in the Law Society of Ireland on the Professional Practice Course in the area of probate and taxation.

Helen will give an overview of enduring powers of attorney, living wills, advanced healthcare directives and what consideration should be given to wills/trusts and taxation related matters.
