Urgent Update on Croke Park Talks Irish Medical Organisation

The IMO announces that it has withdrawn from negotiations on Croke Park 2. In a joint press briefing with the INMO, Steve Tweed, Director of Industrial Relations, explained that the proposals from Government would have had a catastrophic impact on member’s earnings and working conditions and ultimately would have affected patient care. Mr Tweed described the proposals as “a step too far”.

Shortly after the decision was announced by the IMO and INMO other unions representing workers in the public sector joined the walkout.

The main proposals put forward by Government which the IMO have rejected are:
• Increased hours
• Pay cuts and a freeze on pay scales
• Reduction in premium rates and overtime rates
The IMO have made it clear that any attempts by Government to unilaterally alter the terms and conditions of IMO members will be resisted vigorously and the IMO will be working closely with the INMO in this regard.

Our increasing concerns in relation to the proposals at the Croke Park Talk was discussed at the IMO Members meeting yesterday and reiterated by the President on RTEs This Week.

We will continue to keep members informed over the coming days
