As a 2019 Intern it is crucial you are an IMO member as we seek to finally get payment for intern induction. This has been a long campaign and we have received commitments from both the Minister for Health and the HSE that the when you attend at your workplace at the request of the employer you must be paid  -  however it is not over the line and we need to show the strength and unity of all interns on this issue.  It is more than just about pay, it is a matter of RESPECT FOR DOCTORS.

 

We are determined that the IMO and our interns strongly resist any attempts by the employer to renege on the commitments given and if it becomes necessary we will not cooperate with additional induction activities over and above contractual obligations.  

 

It is therefore vitally important that you convert your student membership to Intern Membership now by logging on to www.imo.ie/join-now/rejoin  - the cost is €10 per month and your first payment will not be until August 2019. 

 

Over the past couple of years we have engaged in many fights on behalf of our NCHDs, often the most vulnerable of workers within our health services and we have had successes which has seen pay increases through public service agreements, reinstatement of living out allowances, incremental credits for other degrees and at last financial support for training activities. These improvements have only come about through the commitment of doctors like you becoming members of the IMO so don’t delay, become a member of the IMO and join with over 5000 colleagues in the fight for fairness for doctors and a better health service.
