Further Update to IMC Fee Increase

Further Update to IMC Fee Increase

The IMO has received overwhelming support from its members in regard to the unjustified increased being imposed by the Medical Council on doctors.  It is imperative that we secure a long term solution to the year on year increases and the ever growing range of activities that doctors are expected to fund through their registration fees.

The IMO and its members are conscious of the obligation for the profession in respect of registration fees and we have arranged a further meeting with the Medical Council on Wednesday 1st July in an effort to engage on a long term solution to the problem.

While the deadline for receipt of registration is 1st July you will NOT be faced with registration difficulties if you have not paid by this date pending any striking off process which, under legislation, takes time.

Therefore we ask all members NOT TO PAY the increased fees before our meeting on Wednesday.

Doctors have been making efforts to pay the 2014 fee level through electronic transfer or bank drafts but such payments have been met with resistance from the Medical Council and this is not acceptable.  If you have been unsuccessful in making online payments please keep a record of the rejection for the transaction. Bank of Ireland members having difficulty paying on line have reported being able to make payment at a Branch either by using the electronic payment facilities or by speaking with a member of bank staff who can authorise payments.

This issue is about the principle of doctors facing unjustified fee increases without any engagement with their representative bodies. Through the IMO you have an opportunity to have your voice heard and we ask for your continued support.
