IMO welcomes Government move to suspend review of Discretionary Medical Cards.

“Government must restore cards to those whose cards have been withdrawn in recent months”

Thursday 29th May 2014. The IMO has welcomed the announcement today by Minister Alex White TD that the Government is suspending the review of Discretionary Medical Cards which has been underway across the country. The IMO has campaigned for over a year against this "cull" of medical cards on the grounds of the hardship that this was causing to people in difficult circumstances.

Speaking today, Dr. Ray Walley, Chairman of the GP Committee of the IMO said; "For over a year our members have highlighted the damage being caused by this measure so we welcome the move today. However it remains unclear what will happen to people who have lost their card in recent months…….cards which have been withdrawn under this cull should be returned”.
