IMO GPs agree to “talks about talks” with the Minister for Primary Care.

GP Committee Chairman – “these are not negotiations but we will engage in a dialogue to see if a basis for full and proper negotiations can be found in due course.”

Thursday 1st May 2014. The GP Committee of the IMO will meet the Minister for Primary Care, Alex White TD, in respect of his invitation to “talks about talks” in relation to the Government’s proposals for the extension of Free GP Care to Children under the age of six.

The Chairman of the GP Committee, Dr. Ray Walley, said; “These are not negotiations and we remain to be persuaded that there will be a basis for negotiations but the Committee has indicated that it is prepared to explore the issue further with the other side.”

He continued; ”We have indicated to the Minister that we will engage in a dialogue to explore whether there is a basis on which proper and full negotiations between the IMO on behalf of GPs across the country and the Department of Health can take place in respect of a new GP Contract.”
