Attempts to withhold NCHDs' due entitlements will be opposed

IMO Statement- 30th September 2011

ATTEMPTS TO WITHHOLD NCHDs' DUE ENTITLEMENTS WILL BE VIGOROUSLY OPPOSED – IMO
30th September, 2011

Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors expressed their anger and frustration at hospital management who continue to blatantly disregard their contractual entitlements at an IMO meeting today (30 September 2011) in Cork University Hospital.

Dr. Mark Murphy, IMO NCHD Chairman said: “This scepticism is based on their experiences over the last number of years where NCHDs have paid the price of badly managed hospital services.”

Dr Murphy said;  “The IMO are deeply frustrated at the most recent unilateral action taken by management at  CUH not to pay for un-rostered overtime, given that no formal rosters are available to the NCHDs, therefore making it impossible to identify what hours are un-rostered.”

He said; “While the IMO understands that the hospital is only now drafting rosters these should have already been in place, and over six months ago the IMO offered to work with the hospital management to draft rosters in an attempt to reduce NCHDs overtime.”

Dr. Murphy said; “This is a clear breach of their Contract and Croke Park (Public Service Agreement). Should management fail to revert their position the Irish Medical Organisation will consider all options available to them up to and including a ballot for industrial action.”

“Any attempt to continue to withhold doctors’ due entitlements will be vigorously opposed by the IMO,” said Dr. Murphy
