Nine CPD Credits available at IMO AGM

A TOTAL OF 9 CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) CREDITS AVAILABLE AT IMO ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING  

With the deadline for the first year of the Competence Assurance Scheme fast approaching this is an opportunity to acquire credits before the 30th April deadline.
 
The Irish Medical Organisation is hosting a number of CPD events at the Annual General Meeting  in Killarney from Thursday 12th – Saturday 14th April.  There are three Scientific Sessions and three Case Study and Skills Training events which have been developed around a range of topics that are relevant across the medical disciplines and will ensure a varied CPD programme for IMO members. 
 
In total the CPD programme has been accredited for 9 external credits by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and with the deadline for the first year of the Competence Assurance Scheme fast approaching this is an opportunity to acquire credits before the 30th April deadline.
 
On May 1st 2012, the Medical Council will commence monitoring and auditing activities of doctors through random selection and to ensure compliance with competence assurance requirements.  All doctors will be required to sign in at each session and will be provided with a certificate of attendance for each session. 
 
On Thursday a total of 3.5 CPD credits can be awarded for those who attend the Rheumatology Skills Training and the 1st of three Scientific Sessions – ‘Bridging the Divide – Addressing Inequalities in Health.’  
 
A total of 3 Points are available on Friday for those attending the Training event on Outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium DT8 and the 2nd Scientific Session ‘Building a Healthier Future – Issues in Child Health’.  
 
On Saturday 2.5 CPD Credits will be awarded for the 3rd and final Scientific Session and the training programme with Prof. Sean Tierney, Consultant Surgeon titled ‘who to refer and when to refer for Vascular Surgery’.  
 
This is a total of 9 Continuing Professional Development Credits that can be awarded over the three day event.  Full details of the CPD Programme are available on www.imo.ie
