Public Health Doctors National Meeting Motions

1. That the HSE as a matter of urgency both reverse the existing moratorium on the recruitment of community health doctors and restriction in mileage as both are having a detrimental effect on community health service provision. Not allowing doctors to travel to clinics/schools will mean extra hardship and costs for parents, in particular the poor and more vulnerable populations who have not the means to travel long distances to clinics.

2. The IMO calls on the HSE, in light of recent retirements, to lift the recruitment embargo for community health doctors so as to guarantee the delivery of a basic meaningful quantum of services including child health screening, disability and immunisation services in all areas of the country.

3. The IMO calls on the HSE, in light of recent retirements, to lift the recruitment embargo with respect to community health doctors so as to ensure the delivery of a standardised school immunisation service in all areas of the country.

4. The IMO calls on the HSE, in light of recent retirements and restrictions on recruitment, to lift the embargo on Senior Medical Officers in Public Health doctors so as to guarantee the delivery of timely TB services in all areas of the country.

5. The IMO calls on the HSE to ensure that a governance structure is put in place as a matter of priority to oversee the reorganisation and development of Child Health Services, including a standardised evidence based school health service (as per statutory obligation under the Health Act 1970) and standardised school immunisation service, so as to ensure the best possible outcome for our children in the future.
