Remuneration/Recording of Working Hours
The IMO wishes to remind all NCHDs that they are entitled to be paid for all hours worked whether or not they fall within a 48 hour week or in excess and whether rostered or unrostered. With regard to unrostered overtime, the 2006 Labour Relations Commission Agreement between the IMO and the HSE refers:
“It is agreed that, under the terms of circulars already issued, any unrostered overtime, which has been approved by the consultant, will be paid to the claiming NCHD. However, management reserves the right to query this overtime and in such cases the Doctor will be made aware of the query and the query will be dealt with prior to the issuing of payment” NCHDs should continue to complete and submit overtime claim forms for all hours worked regardless of whether or not your hospital is paying for all hours claimed. It is imperative that NCHDs keep copies of these forms and that they are checked against payslips. Any incorrect payments must be reported to payroll, in writing, and also to the IMO. Please note that while Hospitals are entitled to request NCHDs to include lunch breaks on overtime claim forms, these lunch breaks must be paid in full.
